Multi-Factor Authentication (sometimes called MFA), is a powerful way to keep your accounts secure. Think of it like an extra lock on the digital doors to your accounts.

Multi-factor authentication requires a user to provide a combination of two or more credentials to verify their identity during the process of logging in. The most common combination of credentials is a code texted to your phone or email, along with your password. We also support the use of email, an automated phone call and authenticator apps in place of a text message.

REMEMBER: Your security is our priority!
First New York will never call or text to ask for your member number, social security number, or any other sensitive personal information.
If you receive a call, email, or text message requesting sensitive information, ignore the request and call our Contact Center (518)-393-1326 opt 2 to report the incident.

Enabling multi-factor authentication increases the security of your accounts because if one credential becomes compromised, the unauthorized user will be unable to get the second credential to access your accounts. This makes it much harder for hackers to gain access to your accounts and steal your personal information.

Turning on multi-factor authentication for our online banking, First OnLine, and our mobile app, FNY On-The-Go is easy!
Step 1: Go to My Settings within First OnLine and FNY On-The-Go.
Step 2: Scroll down to Login & Security.
Step 3: Click Edit next to Security Options under Login & Security.
Step 4: Choose where you would like to receive your authentication code.

  • By phone: Confirm your identity by responding to a text or call to a phone that you have handy.
  • By authenticator: Confirm your identity with an authenticator app that you can download to your iOS or Android device to provide an extra level of security at sign in. You can download and install one from the App Store or Google Play store. Supported Authenticator Apps: Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
  • By email: Receive one-time security codes to your primary email address.

Step 5: Once you have chosen how you would like to authenticate your account and made sure the correct information was entered, enter your password to save changes.
Step 6: You have now enabled multi-factor authentication and your First New York accounts are more secure!
